Project Overview:

Wikipedia is one of the most visited websites in the world, home to millions of articles covering nearly every subject imaginable. Despite the depth and scale of that content, its social media presence leaned heavily on a familiar format: talking head videos with article overlays walking viewers through a topic. The approach was informative, but the format left room to go further.

Our Approach:

The opportunity was clear. Wikipedia's content wasn't the problem, the presentation was. We identified that a more cinematic, visually driven approach could bring the same information to life in a way that felt less like a lesson and more like an experience. Rather than describing articles, we decided to inhabit them.

We produced four VFX-driven short films, each adapting a distinct Wikipedia article into a visually striking narrative built for social media:

Brain in a Vat - A philosophical thought experiment rendered through immersive, disorienting visuals that pull the viewer into the question itself.

The Butterfly Effect - Cause, consequence, and chaos brought to life through layered motion and cinematic compositing.

Exploding Head Syndrome - A rare and surreal condition explored through visceral sound design and visual storytelling that made the abstract feel felt.

Alice in Wonderland Syndrome - A perceptual disorder reimagined through warped scale, shifting perspectives, and dreamlike VFX sequences.

Our priorities included:

Visual Transformation - Moving Wikipedia's social content away from static overlays and toward original, cinematic visuals built to stop a scroll. Broad Appeal Through Storytelling - Structuring each piece as a short narrative experience rather than an informational summary, widening the potential audience beyond existing Wikipedia followers. Pacing as a Creative Tool - Using quick cuts, dynamic motion, and deliberate rhythm to match the attention patterns of multi-platform social audiences across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

Key Challenges & Solutions:

Informational Content Has a Familiarity Problem - Talking head formats can blend into the background of a crowded feed. We reframed each article not as content to be explained, but as a world to be entered, giving viewers a reason to watch that went beyond curiosity. Abstract Concepts Resist Easy Visualization - Articles like Brain in a Vat and Alice in Wonderland Syndrome deal in perception, philosophy, and neurological experience. We leaned into that difficulty, using VFX and compositing to externalize the internal and make the conceptually strange feel viscerally real.
